In 2020, the already impressive collection of Plantinian editions held at the Bibliothèque Universitaire Moretus Plantin (BUMP) in Namur was considerably enriched by the exceptional collection of Philippe de Dorlodot. The 500th anniversary of Plantin’s birth and the arrival of these new editions provided an opportunity to explore this collection in greater depth and to present it in a book that aims to reconcile scientific rigour with a general public approach. Our conference will present the results of this project, focusing on the issue of multilingualism and translation in Plantin’s work as a printer and publisher. We will show that the angle of translation makes it possible to observe multiple characteristics of these works: their material aspect, their role within a network of humanists or a particular political context, and even, in some cases, the singular history of particular copies.
